Making Healthy Lives

Bridgewater Primary has an established Kitchen Garden and we have been associated with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program since 2010.

  • Kitchen Garden – All children in the school have a fortnightly gardening session with our Garden Specialist, where they learn how to prepare the soil, propagate seedlings and take care of crops through to harvest.
  • Cooking Program – Children in the Middle Years work in small groups with our Kitchen Specialist once a fortnight. Other children are engaged in cooking activities on a regular basis. Children learn about seasonality of produce and how to prepare healthy, tasty meals using the harvest from our garden. They cook, set the table and sit together to share food, conversation and fun. Then they clean up.

  • Daily Sport and Fitness Programs
  • Nude Food – children are encouraged to bring healthy lunches without wrapping or packaging. We do not have a canteen, and parents/volunteers prepare Scrummy Lunches for purchase during the term.
