Governing Council

Governing Council is a dynamic group who approach their role with creativity and energy.

Role of the Bridgewater Primary School Governing Council

The primary role of the Governing Council is the enhancement of students’ learning through the cooperative efforts of parents, students, staff, and others in the community.   The Governing Council fulfills this role by:

  • Providing a strategic view;
  • Contributing to the development of a Strategic Plan;
  • Strengthening community partnerships. The Governing Council extends the community’s role in determining the direction of the school and in making decisions affecting them. It is a forum for sharing ideas and a sounding board on proposals.
  • Under The Education Act 1972, the Governing Council is accountable to the Minister for developing, negotiating and meeting the objectives and targets of the strategic plan. While the governing body has a responsibility to discuss, question and refine proposals, in doing so it must respect the professional and management roles of the principal and staff.
